Here is the problem with this potential impeachment: You can’t ask any Republican what they are going to impeach the president for… because they have no idea.

On Tuesday, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced that he is directing House committees to open a formal impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden. The news will not only appease the vast nutjob-wing of the GOP, it will also allow House Republicans to unleash the awesome might of their investigative prowess so they can finally prove that Biden did… umm… well… the thing! Yeah, that’s right. He totally did the thing with the other guy in the place. Remember? That one time with the money and the “big guy” and the accounts and Burisma!
See, here is the problem with this dumbpeachment, as we will call it: You can’t ask any Republican what they are going to impeach the president for… because they have no idea.
While they have been accusing Biden of committing any number of “high crimes and misdemeanors” on Fox News and other right-wing outlets, they haven’t provided solid evidence of any of them. Actually, they haven’t even offered non-solid evidence. It’s all just vague insinuations.
This is a fact that is not lost on Senate Republicans, who also have a bit part to play in this political theater/clown show. They know this is all really stupid. It’s not as though they would mind impeaching Biden, they just know that there is zero evidence so far.
And, for the record, if there were such evidence that Biden committed a serious crime while in office (not like stealing a paper clip, which is what this might come down to), then we think he should be investigated and, if the facts warrant it, impeached.
You know, for example, if he tried to extort an ally by threatening to withhold military aid unless that ally found dirt on his political rival. Or staged a coup. That kind of stuff.
But it certainly shouldn’t be for “that one time his son, who is a proven liar, said his dad was in the room when he was texting with a business partner.” Up to this point, that is the level of evidence the GOP investigators have unearthed… and it certainly hasn’t been for a lack of trying.
However, because they are a determined bunch, that won’t stop House Republicans from moving forward.
In fact, it is most likely that Biden’s refusal to go along with this nonsense will ultimately lead to the president’s impeachment.
Because it is quite clear that the “investigators” will try to get their hands on any kind of document they can. Not to prove a crime but in search of one.
To explain how dumbpeachment is going to work, imagine a couple having an argument.
Her: I know you did something wrong.
Him: What did I do?
Her: You know…
Him: I really don’t. You’ll have to be more specific.
Her: Fine. I’ll tell you. I just need you to show me your phone’s call history for the past 10 years, every text message and email you have sent and received during that time, full access to your bank account, all of your credit card statements, and every one of your social media passwords.
Him: What?
Her: By tomorrow.
Him: Yeah, I’m not doing that.
Her: GUILTY!!!
That, in a nutshell, is how dumbpeachment is going to play out.
