Movements need heroes.  They need people to lionize and worship. In the MAGAverse, there usually isn’t a lot of room for anybody next to Donald Trump. However, during the former president’s rally in Butler, PA, on Saturday, another name loomed (almost) as large: Corey Comperatore, the man who was killed when a wannabe assassin took a shot at Trump in July.

By all accounts, he died as a hero that day. When those shots were fired, Comperatore dove in front of his family to protect his loved ones. That’s heroic.

And, as a volunteer firefighter, he was also clearly an asset to his community. Almost by definition, anybody who rushes into potentially lethal situations to save the lives and property of people they probably never met is a hero.

That isn’t complicated.

However, taking a bullet meant for Trump and being a volunteer firefighter aren’t the only ways in which he was a true representative of the MAGA spirit.

Comperatore also embodied the values of the movement in other, more subtle ways, as his Twitter feed shows.

For example, he didn’t fall for that COVID bullshit when so many others did.

And, when MAGA nation called for a boycott of Bud Light because the company had worked with a transgender woman, Comperatore was ahead of the curve because he never drank that particular brand of beer in the first place.

He not only loved his family but also MAGA personalities like Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), Steve Bannon, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Tucker Carlson.

At times, he was frustrated with the futility of Republican investigations into the Biden crime family, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), in whom he had placed high hopes, was not conservative enough for him. In fact, he might as well be a Democrat, Comperatore opined.

His views on a variety of issues reflected the MAGA ideology and the way in which it is expressed. In other words, he was able to communicate something without explicitly saying it… whether those were topics like race-based hiring, whether global warming activists should be hanged (speaking of hanging, he was also not a fan of Mike Pence), the potential sexual preferences of certain US senators, and transportation in the Middle East.

Like so many others in the movement, Comperatore was ready to go to war for Trump.

He also had some innovative thoughts on how to deal with US immigration and Ukraine in one swoop.

Finally, Comperatore weighed in on matters in which he had true expertise as a firefighter.

When faced with the conundrum of which individual to risk from a burning room, he “100 percent” chose Russian President Vladimir Putin over US President Joe Biden, Hillary Clinton, or Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).

For all of these reasons, it is more than fitting that Comperatore was celebrated at the Trump rally on Saturday… because he personifies the MAGA movement in every way.
