The brilliance of John Oliver and “Last Week Tonight” is that he and his staff have managed to cloak real journalism in comedy. This was once again on display Sunday, when they tackled voter suppression — an enormous problem that is too often ignored.
In this case, he dedicated most of his HBO show to the issue of felon disenfranchisement — particularly in Florida. WhoWhatWhy readers are obviously familiar with the issue, which we have covered in the past (for example, here and here).
But we have never made disenfranchisement as funny as Oliver does in the clip below. If you have not seen it, check it out. You’ll both be entertained and enraged.
Where else do you see journalism of this quality and value?

Their own personal belief? So I’m surprised that the only question they need to ask is do you intend to vote Republican or Democratic? Because that’s the sole reason for this voter disenfranchisement. So, do you go to church? Like Rick the prict Scott is a good Christian?
Normally “prick” is not capitalized — or is that his first name?
What would anyone expect from the total Prick Scott preceded by Jeb the drug running criminal Bush?
