Why the Boston Marathon Bombing Suspect Is Silent by Lara Turner
If Dzhokhar Tsarnaev were imprisoned in any other country, he’d be described as being held incommunicado. But since he’s a terrorism suspect in America, he’s incarcerated under “Special Administrative Measures.” Here’s why that’s a much bigger threat to the truth than it sounds.

WHO

The Shadowy U.S. Veteran Who Tried to Overthrow a Country
Why did a U.S. Army veteran and a Texas businessman think they could easily topple the government of Gambia? Many questions remain, but one interesting fact to emerge in this story by The Daily Beast is that Papa Faal—the former Air Force and Army sergeant who was known to fellow plotters by the code name “Fox”—received training at Ft. Benning in Georgia. Glenn Greenwald writes about a troubling trend in the U.K. that has authorities targeting dissenters like British teenager Azhar Ahmed. He was arrested and convicted of “a racially aggravated public order offense” after posting criticism of the Afghanistan war on Facebook. As Greenwald observes, that criminalization of speech is also happening in the U.S.

FBI Says Search Warrants Not Needed to Use “Stingrays” in Public Places
The FBI doesn’t believe it needs a warrant to deploy cell-site simulators called “stingrays” in public places. The “decoy cell towers” can track a mobile phone’s location and capture the identity, calls and texts of any mobile phone user. “The FBI made its position known during private briefings with staff members of Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.) and Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa),” according to Ars Technica.

WHY

Worse Than Keystone: The Pipeline Project You’ve Never Heard Of.
The GOP-controlled Congress plans on sending President Obama a bill authorizing the KeystoneXL … and the White House plans on vetoing it. Meanwhile, Canadian energy giant Enbridge already has 50,000 miles of pipelines criss-crossing North America and is now planning a “massive expansion in the Great Lakes basin” that would make Minnesota a “superhighway for oil.”
