Donald Trump on Friday night called out Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), formerly one of his biggest fans, for not sufficiently toeing the line. Unsurprisingly, the lawmaker's support for releasing the Epstein files seems to be at the heart of their disagreement.

Donald Trump on Friday withdrew his support of Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), one of his most loyal and fervent supporters. Calling her “wacky,” the president did in a social media post what he accused the GOP lawmaker of doing: “COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN.”
And it is true that Greene has not been toeing the party line.
She has been very outspoken about her belief that her Republican colleagues, and especially GOP leaders in the House of Representatives, are not doing enough to deliver on Trump’s “America First” agenda.
This has made Greene a darling of left-leaning cable TV shows in recent weeks, especially because she was happy to talk to anybody about her belief that the House should not be in recess during the shutdown, and that Republicans should come up with a plan to help Americans deal with the high cost of living and, especially, health care.
What set her apart from almost all other GOP lawmakers was that she actually wanted to address these issues while they were content to pretend that Trump either had addressed them already or had a plan to do so imminently.
This dynamic was reflected in the president’s social media post.
“I am withdrawing my support and Endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, of the Great State of Georgia,” the president wrote, before listing some of the real, exaggerated, and imaginary accomplishments of his administration.
In spite of his perceived triumphs, Trump lamented that “all [he sees] ‘Wacky’ Marjorie do is COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN, COMPLAIN!”
The president suggested that the source of the lawmaker’s discontent was him sending her a poll which showed that, without his endorsement, she could not win statewide office.
And now that she turned on him, in Trump’s mind, he indicated that he would be willing to endorse another candidate in a GOP primary in her Georgia district.
In addition, he claimed that Greene was unhappy with her lack of access to the president.
“She has told many people that she is upset that I don’t return her phone calls anymore, but with 219 Congressmen/women, 53 U.S. Senators, 24 Cabinet Members, almost 200 Countries, and an otherwise normal life to lead, I can’t take a ranting Lunatic’s call every day,” Trump wrote in his post.
As an aside, it is interesting that the president of all Americans does not seem to think that he should ever take a phone call from any Democrat. In addition, we would like to note that Trump did have the time to weigh in on the recent nuptials of Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), another thorn in the president’s side, and inform his wife that she would “soon find out that she is stuck with a LOSER.”
Of course, the main thing Greene and Massie have in common is that they want to force the administration to release the Epstein files, which is something Trump has been fighting tooth-and-nail.
And while that was left unsaid in the president’s rant, Greene was quick to point it out in her combative response.
“President Trump just attacked me and lied about me,” she wrote on X. “I haven’t called him at all, but I did send these text messages today.”
She attached a screenshot of a text she sent to “DJT,” in which she urged the president to “check the flight logs” of Epstein’s plane and noting that former President Bill Clinton’s name appears 26 in them.
“For many of us releasing, the Epstein files has always been for the women who were victims of Jeffrey Epstein, but also because we believed that Democrat bad guys like the Clintons were entangled and involved with him,” Greene wrote. Epstein was the spider that wove the web of the deep state. Lean into it.”
Of course, Trump has absolutely, positively zero interest of leaning into anything related to Epstein. Instead, he has been acting like a man who has something to hide.
Greene may slowly be coming to the same conclusion.
“Apparently this is what sent him over the edge. The Epstein files,” she wrote. “And of course he’s coming after me hard to make an example to scare all the other Republicans before next weeks vote to release the Epstein files. It’s astonishing really how hard he’s fighting to stop the Epstein files from coming out that he actually goes to this level.”
What is ironic is that, apart from the Epstein matter, she had always insulated the president from her criticism as though he really was trying to implement an “America First” agenda and not a “Whatever Trump Wants Only” agenda.
Greene stated that she, and most Americans, want Trump to fight as hard as he does in preventing the disclosure of the Epstein files when it comes to helping “the forgotten men and women of America who are fed up with foreign wars and foreign causes, are going broke trying to feed their families, and are losing hope of ever achieving the American dream.”
Again, it seems to now dawn on her that the president has limited interest in achieving any of those things.
Finally, she committed the cardinal sin of any Republican:
“I have supported President Trump with too much of my precious time, too much of my own money, and fought harder for him even when almost all other Republicans turned their back and denounced him,” she said. “But I don’t worship or serve Donald Trump. I worship God, Jesus is my savior, and I serve my district GA14 and the American people.”
Of course, Trump demands nothing short of complete worship, and if Greene isn’t willing to offer him that, then he’ll find someone who will (especially if that someone won’t vote to release the Epstein files).
The main questions now are whether the two of them can patch up this rift and how far this will escalate if they don’t.
We have seen before, especially in the case of Elon Musk, that Trump is willing to mend fences with previously fervent supporters who stray from the pack… as long as they kiss the ring again.
