The upcoming midterms will be a watershed moment in US history. Four weeks from today, the American people will get to decide whether they want to stay the course or reject the policies of Donald Trump and his GOP.
For his part, the president is very confident that things will go splendidly as long as voters pretend that he is on the ballot. Democrats feel exactly the same way. They want this election to be a referendum on Trump.
Both sides are convinced that the numbers back them up. Democrats take comfort in the fact that every single poll for months suggests that the president is highly unpopular and that even Republicans in red states need to worry about losing.
Trump and the Dems Share a Wish: Making the Midterms About Trump
Trump, on the other hand, takes solace in his belief that all those polls are “fake,” and that the real polls, which nobody but him has seen, and the high school gymnasiums he manages to (largely) pack are evidence that he is beloved.
So, who is right?
Well, it depends on whether you live in reality or in the America that exists in Trump’s head. In the second case, you should absolutely vote for a Republican in the midterms.
For example, if you agree with the president that the past two years have been the greatest in US history and that the country is currently enjoying the best economy ever, then you should support the GOP candidate.
The same applies if you think that affordability is a hoax, that costs are down, and/or if you are a fan of high gas prices.
Or if you got a $4,000 tax cut this year compared to 2025, as the Commerce Department claims.
Speaking of money, Republicans also deserve your vote if you cashed one of the $5,000 DOGE rebate checks Trump promised, or even just the $2,000 tariff dividend from 2025.
Let’s also not forget a central pillar of every GOP campaign in the country: If you are personally affected by the scourge of transgender athletes and believe that this is one of the most pressing issues the nation faces, then your choice is clear.
You should also vote for the Republican candidate if you think that checks and balances are overrated, that Trump and his administration should not be subject to any kind of oversight, and that the billions of dollars he and his family are raking in are well deserved.
In addition, if you are mentioned in the Epstein files and want to prevent their full disclosure, or if you generally think that other pedophiles involved with the president’s erstwhile pal should not be punished, then you should definitely not support any Democrat next month.
The same is true if you think that going to war with Iran was a brilliant idea that worked out as planned, and that the US is better off allying itself with countries like North Korea and Russia than with Canada and the European Union.
Oh, and if you believe that it is the exporting countries that pay for tariffs and not the importing businesses and, ultimately, American consumers, then Republicans should get your vote.
Other reasons to vote for the GOP candidate in four weeks include wanting more Supreme Court justices in the mold of Samuel Alito, an aversion to science, a complete lack of interest in facts, a fondness for gold leaf, the deeply held conviction that there needs to be a ballroom that dwarfs the White House, the belief that masked government thugs should be allowed to kill Americans in broad daylight without facing consequences, and a loathing of democracy and the nation’s founding ideals.
Of course, if none of the above applies to you and you think it’s time for some accountability, then supporting any Republican running this year is a terrible idea, and you should make sure right now that you are registered to vote and have a plan for doing so.
