When, and not if, Kash Patel abuses his office, let's not forget that it was Senate Republicans who are responsible for every one of his misdeeds.

When Donald Trump unveiled his cabinet-level nominees, the “resistance” held out some hope that moderate Republicans might defy the president and reject some of his choices. What a bunch of fools.
On Thursday, the Senate confirmed the worst of them, and only two Republicans felt that it might not be the best idea to make Kash Patel the director of the FBI.
Of all the nominees, Patel is least qualified for the job he was chosen to do, which is upholding the law and impartially leading the nation’s premier law enforcement agency. That’s quite a feat seeing how Trump also selected a fan of Vladimir Putin to serve as his Director of National Intelligence and picked a TV show host with a drinking problem to run the Pentagon.
There is a decent chance that many of his nominees will mess up royally. After all, they weren’t chosen because of their respective abilities but rather because they could be counted on to be loyal to Trump, and not the Constitution or those pesky laws they were sworn to uphold.
And when the president comes calling one day in the near future to ask them to do something unethical or illegal that harms the American people but benefits him personally in some way, many of them will probably do so.
Patel, on the other hand, is not just likely to violate his oath of office; he is virtually certain to do it.
Heck, he couldn’t even make it through his confirmation hearing without lying (under oath no less).
Of all the nominees, he is probably the most partisan… while holding a job that is supposed to be apolitical.
It is a recipe for disaster.
Therefore, it is largely a question of when, not if, Patel will do something that is illegal, unethical, immoral, or all of the above.
Our money is on next week (or perhaps tomorrow if that’s when he starts).
Unfortunately, not all of the criminal behavior of Trump and his administration will be uncovered (in part because the FBI is run by Patel). In fact, only a sliver might be.
But these misdeeds will be so vast that even a sliver is going to be plenty.
In addition, it’s not just about committing crimes; it’s also about taking actions that run counter to the interests of the American people.
We are talking about things of a magnitude that cannot be covered up.
And when that happens, Senate Republicans will be responsible for every single thing they do.
Because, and this is the worst part, they know that Kash Patel should not be FBI director, that Pete Hegseth should not be Secretary of Defense, and that Tulsi Gabbard should not be DNI.
In each case (and many others), there were red flags all over the place… and Senate Republicans chose to ignore all of them.
Let’s not forget.
