While Democrats too often allow Donald Trump to lie with impunity, the former president’s attempt at depriving hurricane victims of hope was a bridge too far for President Joe Biden.

Donald Trump has been traveling across the country, telling lie after lie to anybody willing to listen to him. Too many times, Democrats just trust that the American people are smart enough to separate fact from fiction… and too many times, Americans have proven them wrong.
On Monday, President Joe Biden did what Democrats should be doing all the time: He called out Trump for an egregious lie and angrily fact-checked him.
Reporter: Trump has accused you of ignoring—
Biden: He's lying and the governor told him he was lying. I've spoken to the governor.. I don't know why he does this and the reason I get so angry about it, I don't care about what he says about me, but I care what he communicates to… pic.twitter.com/zZuZH3nXKe

Good for him!
The former president had traveled to Georgia earlier on Monday and baselessly claimed that the Biden administration is not doing enough to help the people affected by Hurricane Helene, and that the state’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp had trouble getting in touch with Biden.
That is a lie.
Earlier, Kemp had told reporters that he not only did speak to Biden, but also that the president offered him any help he needed.
When the governor assured Biden that, for now, Georgia “got what we need,” the president offered that Kemp should reach out to him directly if he required any other assistance.
That did not stop the reality-challenged Trump from once again making up his own “truth.”
Furthermore, in contrast to Biden, who said he would visit the region later in order not to impede rescue efforts, the former president did not want to pass up this photo op, which means he drained law enforcement and other resources from the Peach State.
All of this did not sit well with Biden, who has not pushed back against most of Trump’s other lies.
Asked about the former president’s false statement, he forcefully rebuked his predecessor.
“He’s lying and the governor told him he was lying. I’ve spoken to the governor,” Biden said from the White House. “I don’t know why he does this and the reason I get so angry about it, I don’t care about what he says about me, but I care what he communicates to the people that are in need.”
The president is right, of course.
The last thing that people want to hear who lost loved ones or their property in this devastating disaster is that help is not coming.
Imagine looking at a flooded home and thinking, “How will I ever fix this?” and then hearing that your government is deserting you in this time of need.
That is what Trump is doing.
Instead of spreading a message of hope, he is devastating victims of this storm all over again. It’s actually somewhat surprising that the former president didn’t also try to get them to buy some limited edition Trump coins or Trump watches with their insurance money.
Rightfully, Biden was livid.
“He implies that we’re not doing everything possible. We are,” the president said, adding that it was “irresponsible” to lie to the storm victims in this way.
