Donald Trump once again showed his true colors in a social media post Friday when he threatened to prosecute his political opponents and their supporters.

As Republicans pretend to be outraged that anybody would dare to call Donald Trump a fascist, the GOP presidential nominee on Friday threatened to prosecute Democratic donors, which is, well, you know, quite a fascist thing to say.

Trump, who came up with the Big Lie because he couldn’t handle that he was handily defeated in the 2020 election, and later attempted a coup to cling to power, once again tried to make it sound as though it is Democrats who are trying to “steal” an election from him.

Mind you, there is absolutely no evidence that this happened four years ago, and his campaign and his cronies lost dozens of lawsuits challenging the outcome of the election and the way it was conducted.

Conversely, some of Trump’s supporters and allies have paid a heavy price for their participation in the coup.

That includes former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who was ordered this week to hand over much of his property to two Georgia election workers whom he defamed.

Or Fox News, which had to pay voting machine maker Dominion Voting Systems a whopping $787 million to settle a lawsuit accusing the GOP propaganda outlet of spreading lies about the company.

And, of course, there are the hundreds of dupes who have been convicted of various crimes related to their participation in Trump’s deadly insurrection on January 6.

Finally, there is the former president himself, who has been charged with several crimes related to that coup attempt. On Thursday, Trump said that, should he win a second term in the White House, one of his first acts would be to fire special counsel Jack Smith. On Friday, he then said Smith should be “thrown out of the country.”

Those are, of course, the kind of things a dictator or, let’s say, a fascist would propose.

Trump once again showed his true colors in a social media post Friday when he threatened to prosecute his political opponents and their supporters.

After once again, and without providing a shred of evidence, accusing Democrats of “rampant cheating” in 2020, the former president stated that, if he were to win, “those people that CHEATED will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the Law, which will include long term prison sentences so that this Depravity of Justice does not happen again.”

It would be nice if all of the people who had tried to cheat in 2020 were convicted to long-term prison sentences, because then the GOP would likely have a nominee who isn’t a full-on fascist (not our words but those of his former chief of staff John Kelly).

As if to prove the retired four-star general right, Trump went a step further.

“Please beware that this legal exposure extends to Lawyers, Political Operatives, Donors, Illegal Voters, & Corrupt Election Officials,” the former president wrote in his social media post. “Those involved in unscrupulous behavior will be sought out, caught, and prosecuted at levels, unfortunately, never seen before in our Country.”

Setting aside that nobody has engaged in “unscrupulous behavior” more than Trump, threatening the supporters of his political adversaries with jail is not the kind of thing a democracy-loving person does.

But then again, at this point, this shouldn’t come as a surprise to anybody who has been paying any attention at all.
