As this week has shown, it’s not ideal to have a crazy person run the United States of America.

Just in case anybody forgot that Donald Trump is nuts, the US president had another public meltdown on social media Tuesday when he ranted and raved about tariffs, making Canada a state, and the one GOP lawmaker with a principle other than, “Let’s placate crazy grandpa because that way we can have power.”
Predictably, Trump reminding the world that he is not only cuckoo but also a mean, vindictive man (and, quite frankly, a complete moron) did very little to ease jitters on Wall Street.
Actually, what’s most surprising about the country being run by someone who is not right in the head is how little stocks are falling in light of this lunatic’s attempt to break the US government, the Constitution, and the economy.
That is really a big part of the story. Everybody knows that Trump is mentally ill, but nobody is willing to spell it out or do something about it.
Both Democrats and Republicans just keep going on about their business as though this is normal and not a five-alarm fire that is going to engulf the entire nation. All of them are betraying their oaths of office by doing nothing.
The same is true for everybody else ranging from business leaders and journalists to Supreme Court justices.
What are you doing???
Let’s get to the particulars.

After threatening Canada, aka the US’s neighbor, friend, and largest trading partner, with tariffs since taking office, Trump absolutely lost it when the Doug Ford, the premier of the province of Ontario, fought back with a tariff of 25 percent on electricity to show Americans that everybody loses in a trade war (Ford later said he would hold off on the tariffs after he and US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick agreed to meet to resolve the trade disputes).
Being challenged when trying to bully someone else is obviously not something Trump can handle, so he immediately overreacted by placing a massive tariff on Canadian steel and aluminum.
Again, we all know that this is terrible policy. Actually, it’s not policy at all. It’s just the reaction of an unstable old coot who is drunk on power and losing his grasp on reality.
Trump called Ontario’s response to his aggression an “abusive threat,” but in the very next sentence he vowed to cripple Canada’s automobile manufacturing industry.
Of course, because he has a God complex (among other mental disorders), all of this is about two things: The first is that Trump hates feeling as though someone is getting the best of him. And the other is that he wants to be the greatest president ever and believes that this is best achieved by massive territorial gains, i.e., by adding Canada (and Greenland) to the US.
Therefore, predictably, he once again laid out his “reasons” why Canada should become a state… along with a not-so-subtle reference to its military weakness.
Of course, Canada does not really need a massive military because it had no enemies… until now.
And the armed forces it has were more than sufficient to come to the US’s aid to fight in Afghanistan in the wake of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
He followed his first post up with another in which he once again placed the blame for his trade war at Canada’s feet.
“[Can] you imagine Canada stooping so low as to use ELECTRICITY, that so affects the life of innocent people, as a bargaining chip and threat?” Trump wrote in a statement that is completely lacking in introspection since it is his tariffs that will do the same to a much greater extent in Canada (and Mexico).
He concluded that second tirade with a menacing threat.
“They will pay a financial price for this so big that it will be read about in History Books for many years to come!” Trump stated.
He then followed up those diatribes with one directed at another person who dares to stand up to him and his bullying, Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY).
Massie is apparently the only Republican in Congress who actually has values and on Tuesday voted against a continuing resolution that will largely maintain current budget levels and therefore add hundreds of billions of dollars to the national debt through September.
Since Trump has no principles, this is hard for him to understand… but certainly in his mind a reason to punish the lawmaker.
“Thomas Massie is a GRANDSTANDER, and the Great People of Kentucky are going to be watching a very interesting Primary in the not too distant future!” Trump stated.
OK, crazy grandpa!
All of this bears repeating the question we asked the nation’s “leaders” earlier: What are you going to do about it?
Massie can’t be the only one with principles and a spine.
