Our brand of nonprofit journalism relies on the support of our readers, and this year, we have a lot to be thankful for.

WhoWhatWhy is headed for another record-breaking year. With a month to go, we already know that more people than ever have read our stories in 2025, and that’s obviously a big deal for any news organization, especially a nonprofit.

A lot of work goes into bringing you the news.

Of course, it is a labor of love, that, since we are operating on a shoestring budget entirely funded by reader donations, is often performed by volunteers, many of whom are veteran journalists with storied careers in the news business.

To them, the reward for their efforts is knowing that millions of people like you read our stories this year.

This Thanksgiving, we are grateful for every member of our team, every reader, and everybody who supports our brand of journalism

That not only means the donors who allow us to bring you news untainted by the demands of advertisers or commercial interests.

It also means anybody who has shared one of our articles, signed up for a newsletter, or provided feedback.

Above all, we are grateful that there are so many people who still care about the things we write and are passionate about: democracy and the threats it faces, justice and injustice, greed, the environment, global conflicts, and a system that benefits a few at the expense of the many.

These are dark and perilous times, but they are not hopeless.

Ultimately, we believe that knowledge is power, and that an informed citizenry that makes good decisions at the ballot box when given an opportunity to hold our leaders to account will turn the tide.

And we believe that most of our readers feel the same way, which is why they turn to a news organization that doesn’t pull punches or hide behind bothsidesism.

This isn’t a time for staying silent or remaining on the sidelines.

And, thanks to your support and patronage, we won’t.

In that spirit, we wish you a Happy Thanksgiving from our little family to yours!
