Tom Homan wants the Department of Justice to look into whether Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) committed a crime by telling people about the Constitution. We think they should go for it. What’s the worst that could happen?

Donald Trump’s “border czar” Tom Homan on Monday continued his feud with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) over her efforts to educate immigrants about their rights and his efforts to bully her into stopping.
It apparently does not sit well with Homan, aka Mr. Congeniality, that a Latina would dare to impede his work of rounding up Hispanics, which is probably why he nonsensically compared informing people of their constitutional rights to physically impeding law enforcement officers.
Ocasio-Cortez then helpfully told him that he should pick up a copy of the Constitution and read it.
Homan does not seem like the type open to this kind of constructive criticism, and it showed during a Presidents’ Day appearance on Fox News.
“You can claim you’re educating [them about] those constitutional rights,” he said. “But what [Ocasio-Cortez] in fact is doing is telling people, ‘Don’t open the door, hide in your home, don’t talk to ICE.’”
Correct, that is exactly what she is doing.

In social media posts, the lawmaker commonly known as AOC told immigrants that Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents cannot enter their homes without a warrant signed by a judge and that they have the right to remain silent, contact a lawyer, and refrain from divulging personal information.
Homan was outraged.
“We’re talking about people who are in the country illegally [and have] committed a crime,” he stated as though ICE is solely targeting only those undocumented migrants who “are a public safety threat, have been convicted of a serious crime, and then been ordered removed by a federal judge.”
However, that is actually not who he is talking about.
Homan has previously stated that any undocumented migrant should watch their back, even though being in the country without the proper documentation is not a criminal offense but rather a civil one.
“If you’re in the country illegally, you’re on the table, because it’s not OK to, you know, violate the laws of this country,” he said a week after Trump took office. “If you’re in the country illegally, you’ve got a problem and we’re looking for you.”
So, even if Homan wants to pretend that all of the people currently being rounded up are public safety threats, that’s not the case by his own admission.
In reality, he probably just doesn’t like it when people stand up to him, and now he is going to do something about it.
“I’ve asked DOJ, where’s that line of [impeding], of interference,” he said on Fox News. “Now, if someone stands in your way, prevents you from arresting somebody, puts your hands on them, that’s [impeding]. But what line is telling people to hide from ICE, not open the door, where do you cross that line? I’m asking the Department of Justice to give us that line.”
Well, if you think that telling people: “Hey, according to the US Constitution, these are your rights,” is the same as kicking an ICE agent between the legs, then that would be a real brain teaser.
Ultimately, Homan believes it should be up to Trump’s hyper-politicized Justice Department to determine whether Ocasio-Cortez broke the law.
DOJ vs AOC??? Yes, please!
We feel so strongly about this being a great idea that we thought we’d write an open letter to DOJ.
Dear Attorney General Pam Bondi and (future) FBI Director Kash Patel,
It has come to our attention that super-likeable border czar Tom Homan wants you to determine whether uber-unpopular Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez broke the law by educating immigrants about the rights the Constitution affords anybody in the United States.
It would probably make President Donald Trump really happy if you did that, and there is no downside whatsoever to charging her with a crime for making some social media posts. It definitely would not expose the GOP’s hypocrisy when it comes to free speech.
Most importantly, women, young voters, and Hispanics would have no problem with that whatsoever, and it certainly wouldn’t galvanize a resistance movement just clamoring to find someone to rally behind.
Oh, and keep in mind that she apparently knows what’s in the Constitution and won’t just open the door, so it’s probably best to just kick it in when you come for her. One last piece of advice: You should probably record the entire thing.
