The Week in Epstein News: Trump, Comer, the Clintons, and Some Ford Worker

01/17/26

With so much happening in the US and around the globe, let's not forget about Jeffrey Epstein and the Trump administration's efforts to keep documents related to the disgraced financier hidden.

There has been such a whirlwind of activity in the first two weeks of the year that it’s easy to forget that the Trump administration is in blatant violation of a law that compels it to make public most of the Department of Justice files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

DOJ has not only released a mere fraction of the documents it was supposed to but also appears to have made illegal redactions, including of Donald Trump’s name, without providing the required explanations.

In the meantime, House Republicans are trying to deflect the heat from their president by focusing on the GOP’s favorite targets: the Clintons.

But before we get to that, here is a thing you need to know about me: When I walk anywhere and I hear someone yell, “There is Patrick Mahomes,” or “Look, it’s Leonardo DiCaprio,” I don’t think they are talking about me since I’m neither of those people. The same is true if someone says, “That guy has blue skin and a tail like those things in Avatar,” or, “There goes a pedophile protector,” since those things also don’t apply to me, either.

Now, here is a thing you need to know about Donald Trump: When he walks somewhere and hears someone yell “Pedophile protector,” he seems to feel as though that is directed at him. Why do you think that is?

At least that is what we must infer from an incident at a Ford plant in Michigan, where the president flipped off a worker and used an expletive when the man yelled, “Pedophile protector.”

Well, as they say, if the shoe fits…

Speaking of pedophile protectors, House Republicans are hoping that going after the Clintons will appease a MAGA base unhappy with the lack of accountability in the Epstein saga.

They spent their week trying to hold former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton in contempt for refusing to appear before a House Committee.

The couple responded in a scathing letter that accuses Rep. James Comer (R-KY), the chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, of politicizing the Epstein investigation.

Well, yes.

To be fair, we’d certainly like to hear what Bill Clinton has to say about his relationship with Epstein. However, it defies belief that Hillary Clinton has more to contribute to the investigation than, for example, someone who sent the alleged sex trafficker of minors a lewd birthday card, spoke of shared secrets, and clearly knew about his preference for young women.

In other words, Comer has no credibility until he tries to get Trump to appear before his committee.

We’d also like to note that the GOP’s efforts to involve the Clintons seem short-sighted.

First of all, it will get Fox News to cover the Epstein saga, which is something the right-wing propaganda outlet has been trying to avoid because of the president’s entanglements with his fellow sexual predator.

In addition, while they are trying to benefit Trump now by distracting from his own involvement with Epstein, which Americans believe to be substantial (a plurality of nearly 50 percent of them think both the current and the former president “engaged in crimes” with their friend), they are also creating a precedent that the commander-in-chief will not appreciate come 2029.
