Once in a Blue Moon Event Will Happen Soon. Here’s When To Look Up. (Maria)
The author writes, “This only happens once in a blue moon, literally. May’s second full moon is almost here, and not only is it a rare blue moon, but it will also be a micromoon. The blue moon will take place soon, giving us two full moons this month. Usually, the full moon only occurs once a month. …The blue moon occurs when there are two full moons in one month — but it won’t actually look blue.”
Trump’s Emerging Plan To End Iran War Draws Criticism From Hard-Line Republicans (Sean)
The author writes, “President Donald Trump’s emerging deal to end the Iran war is drawing heavy criticism from some fellow Republicans who favor a harder line against the government in Tehran and fear a lost opportunity to finally rein in a longtime Mideast nemesis. The deal the Republican president had said was ‘largely negotiated’ has left a range of lawmakers, former Cabinet members and conservative analysts wondering aloud whether the terms as currently known will render the conflict all ‘for naught.’”
‘Broadview Six’ Charges Dropped as Chicago’s Top Federal Prosecutor Admits Case Was Tainted by Misconduct (DonkeyHotey)
From the Chicago Sun-Times: “Chicago’s top federal prosecutor announced the permanent dismissal Thursday of charges against the remaining members of the ‘Broadview Six’ in a stunning hearing that revealed apparent misconduct by his staff before a grand jury during Operation Midway Blitz. In a rare courtroom appearance, U.S. Attorney Andrew Boutros told U.S. District Judge April Perry he’d learned of what happened three weeks ago. He said he didn’t believe any member of his staff had intentionally misled the judge.”
We Analyzed Thousands of News Articles: Here’s the Proof of Pro-Israel Bias in Mainstream Media (Laura)
From The Intercept: “Ask anyone who has followed news about Gaza with even a smidgen of critical thinking, and they will tell you: Media organizations are biased against Palestinians — and systematically favor Israel. It’s easy to say but harder to prove. Doing empirical analysis that shows these biases is time-consuming and complex, full of pitfalls and nuances that can muddy the picture. Yet the double standards are everywhere — and there are ways to do sober, qualitative work that elucidates not only the differences in how Israeli and Palestinian life are covered, but also also in how other recent conflicts are covered.”
On the Ground at Trump’s Taxpayer-Funded Prayer Jubilee (Bethany)
The author writes, “Rededicate 250: A National Jubilee of Prayer, Praise & Thanksgiving was a taxpayer-funded event at which “Americans of every background across the country prepare[d] for the nation’s 250th birthday with Scripture, testimony, prayer, and rededication of our country as One Nation to God.” This nine-hour prayer revival featured two Catholic bishops, a single rabbi, a million Protestant faith leaders and the administration’s most zealous minions. I confess I didn’t listen very closely. It’s a bit of a blur, really: speech, speech, praise music, speech, praise music, speech…the brain rebels after a while. There’s only so many times you can hear the specifically evangelical pronunciation of the word ‘Jeeeeesus’ before the mind starts to wander.”
Warming Waters Are Supercharging an Invasive Salmon Predator in Alaska (Mili)
The author writes, “As Alaska’s rivers warm, invasive northern pike are becoming noticeably more voracious. Scientists discovered that pike of all ages are eating more fish, with young pike increasing consumption by over 60%. Warmer water speeds up their metabolism, pushing them to hunt more. This growing appetite could spell trouble for struggling salmon populations.”
It Seems a Lot Like Trump Accidentally Invested $1 Million in a Conveyor Belt Sushi Restaurant Thinking It Was an AI Hardware Company (Dana)
The author writes, “New reporting from the Japanese newspaper the Yomiuri Shimbun revealed that Trump made another surprising investment alongside his tech stocks: a purchase of $1 to $5 million shares in a conveyor belt sushi restaurant chain called Kura Sushi. Specifically, Yomiuri reports that Trump purchased shares in the company’s American-arm, Kura Sushi USA, which operates 91 conveyor belt sushi joints throughout the continental US. The bizarre investment quickly got the attention of Japanese netizens, who took to Yahoo Finance message boards to speculate as to what the stock trade could mean.”
