Democratic voters were eager to get behind a candidate who could communicate an effective message that would prevent Donald Trump’s return to the White House.

Prior to President Joe Biden’s withdrawal from the 2024 presidential campaign, Democratic voters were in despair. They respected the achievements of the Biden administration, but they knew the campaign was hampered by Biden’s deteriorating ability to deliver a message. The base was frustrated when celebrities and the media started disrespecting Biden. It was seen as pure arrogance for George Clooney to be telling the president what he should do.

A large portion of the Democratic base also felt that the idea of creating some sort of mini primary was foolish. Imagine if we had just witnessed a week of conflict and disagreement rather than the show we just saw in Chicago. Also, there was Kamala Harris. People had voted for a ticket with Biden and Harris. How could the Washington elites really think they could pass her over? Black women are a large part of the engine that drives voter turnout. Passing over Harris would have been a disaster.

Biden ensured that Harris would be his replacement when he endorsed her. This ignited the base and made sure that Harris could capture the nomination.

When Biden dropped out, a flood of relief manifested as half a billion dollars in campaign contributions, legions of volunteer signups, and a hurricane of social media engagement.

Harris and her campaign haven’t disappointed. She got the party endorsements and sidelined her rivals. She got the big donors to come on board right away. Her pick of Tim Walz as her running mate told progressives that she values their votes. This helped to bring harmony and excitement going into the convention.

The voters are telling the campaign they want life made better in America for everyone. It’s time to stop all the silly games the right-wingers keep subjecting us to. There are solutions to the housing crisis, inflation, absurd medical costs, wage theft, and on and on. It’s time for leaders who say enough is enough. Let’s make America work for all families for the first time.
