Former President Donald Trump has chosen to cosplay a Nazi rally at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The event will feature Tesla CEO Elon Musk, UFC CEO Dana White, and House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA). It’s going to be like Woodstock for incels, christofascists, and angry guys from Long Island.
This rally is reminiscent of a Nazi rally held at the Garden in 1939. Trump likes pretending he makes decisions like this innocently, but he’s speaking in code just like Ronald Reagan chose to give a speech about states’ rights near the location of the 1964 murders of James Chaney, Andrew Goodman, and Michael Schwerner. They were three civil rights workers — a student and two members of the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) — murdered and buried in shallow graves by members of the Ku Klux Klan in 1964.
Even more than Reagan before him, Trump enjoys blasting dog whistles to his followers. They are all in on the joke. It gives his followers power to know they are being a little naughty for getting a kick out of Trump’s fascist calls to punish his enemies, employ unchecked executive power, and generally run the government for the benefit of him, his family, and his loyal supporters.
