President Donald Trump believes he is a genius who knows more about economics than did John Maynard Keynes or Milton Friedman.
Trump proclaims that his tariffs will launch a new Golden Age of America. Most economists are calling these tariffs a big mistake that could bring on a great recession or even a depression. The media had been sanewashing Trump’s tariffs — until he announced the number and it was obvious the tariff plan is based on nonsense.
Between these economy-crushing tariffs, Trump’s horrific Cabinet picks, and his allowing Elon Musk to take a chainsaw to the services, benefits, and employees of the federal government, Americans are rising up to say enough is enough.
Only a small minority of Republicans really want to return to Jim Crow. The rest may view the world becoming less affordable and less safe as a bit of a problem. Now that Trump feels his hold on his base weakening just a bit, he may have to fire some people to deflect the blame.
Imagine America is Trump’s wife and she just caught him cheating with… let’s say Laura Loomer. Now picture the explanations and excuses Trump will use to try to convince Americans that he still deserves their love. This week we will watch Trump and Republicans try to explain why America should keep loving them.
