Chevron Making a Killing with Water in California—But at What Cost?
by Klaus Marre
Chevron is selling treated wastewater to California that has been shown to include oil and potentially harmful chemicals. What exactly is in the water used in agriculture is still the oil giant’s dirty secret.

WHO

Pakistanis Knew Where Osama Bin Laden Was, US Sources Say
A new report by NBC News appears to corroborate a key element of Sy Hersh’s bombshell report on the killing of Osama bin Laden. Citing US intelligences sources, NBC News is also reporting that bin Laden was identified by a Pakistani “walk-in” instead of a sophisticated US intel operation. Meanwhile, the media continues its full-frontal attack on Hersh, which Hersh rebutted on Democracy Now! Back in 2011, WhoWhatWhy’s Russ Baker repeatedly raised questions about the government’s account of the raid and the media’s unwillingness to ask questions.

Feds to Shell: Drill, Baby, Drill in the Arctic
President Obama continues to befuddle environmentalists… this time by giving Dutch Royal Shell a “preliminary” green-light to begin the dirty work of deepwater oil drilling in one of the world’s few remaining pristine places. Shell seeks an estimated 15 billion barrels of oil in the Chukchi Sea. They will have to add an extension to their drill bits, though, because the burning of all that oil they’ve already sucked outta’ the Earth is causing the oceans to rise at a faster and faster pace.

Jeb Bush Gets Hit Over the Iraq War
The Next Bush In Line is having a tough week. Although his surrogates say he “misunderstood” a question about the Iraq War, it’s obvious that he “misunderestimated” the backlash within his own party to his brother’s Big Middle Eastern Misadventure! He said he’d have gone into Iraq, too. But that’s the wrong answer… even for dyed-in-the-wool conservatives like popular radio host Laura Ingraham and conservative columnist Byron York over at The Washington Examiner.

Pope Blasts Arms Trade as “Industry of Death”
Pope Francis continues to blaze a new path for the Catholic Church with his refreshing candor. His latest target was the Military-Industrial Complex and arms traders around the world—of which, the US is the biggest on the block. In response to a question from a child about war, the Pope explained why “powerful people” do not want peace. He said, “They make more money with the war!” True that, Frankie. True that.

WHAT

America’s Changing Religious Landscape
A new Pew Survey found that America is losing its religion. And that religion is, of course, Christianity. In just seven years—from 2007 to 2014—the number of Americans identifying as “Christian” declined sharply from 78% to 71%. But it is not because Sharia Law is forcing Oklahomans to either convert to Islam or risk losing their noggins. Rather, the number of people who say they have no religion increased from 16% to 23%. On a related note… R.E.M. said, “Welcome to the club.”

WHY

The Geeks Shall Inherit the Earth: How Superheroes Are Saving TV
Television is hurting. Traditional television viewership has declined precipitously over the last decade. Even worse, Millennials are decidedly indifferent to the boob tube. But fear not, distressed media executives. Not only will you make bank despite your company’s woes, but a whole new generation of superheroes is flying to the rescue and they are attracting a new generation of nerds, geeks and cosplay enthusiasts. And many are in the key demo! But it probably won’t last forever.
