Donald Trump wants to get people to stop talking about Jeffrey Epstein. It's just a little bit puzzling that he hopes to achieve that by continuously bringing up his old pal.

Donald Trump’s strategy of trying to make the “Epstein Hoax” go away by acting in the most suspicious manner possible whenever his former pal Jeffrey is in the news is going splendidly.
On Friday morning, the president took to social media to tell the American people that they shouldn’t “waste [their] time with Trump” when it comes to Epstein.
This is one of the rare occasions when we agree with the president, because we certainly believe that anybody focusing on Trump’s ties to Epstein is not wasting their time.
Just two days ago, House Democrats released thousands of emails from the sexual predator (we mean Epstein, in this case, and not Trump, who has admitted to groping women against their will, was found liable for sexual abuse, and has been credibly accused by multiple women of sexually assaulting them), including some that mention the president in ways that could lead a reasonable person to believe that he knew about the girls his pal had been trafficking and abusing.
What makes us say that?
Well, in one of the emails, Epstein wrote that Trump “knew about the girls.”
That doesn’t sound good, especially considering that the president once called Epstein a “terrific guy” who is “a lot of fun to be with” and “likes beautiful women as much as I do, and many of them are on the younger side.”
Or that he sent his former buddy a lewd birthday card in which he said the two of them “have a lot in common” and hinted that they share “wonderful secret[s].”
Or all of the other times he has acted like a man who has something to hide when it comes to Epstein or his partner in crime Ghislaine Maxwell.
Fortunately for Trump, he can count on the Department of Justice to do his bidding and on Republicans in Congress to look the other way.
Well, at least the good Republicans in Congress.
After accusing Democrats of pushing this “hoax,” which is what he calls an investigation into a convicted sexual predator alleged to have trafficked and sexually abused hundreds of girls and young women, he warned a few wayward GOP lawmakers to toe the line.
“Some Weak Republicans have fallen into their clutches because they are soft and foolish,” the president wrote in one of his posts. “Epstein was a Democrat, and he is the Democrat’s problem, not the Republican’s problem!”
While we assume that the grammatically challenged president meant “Democrats’” and “Republicans,’” if there were a singular Republican for whom Epstein is a problem, it would be Trump.
The next obstacle he has to circumnavigate is a House vote on a measure that would compel DOJ to release the Epstein files. Oddly enough, seeing how he has absolutely nothing to worry about, this is something the president has been resisting.
In fact, according to Trump, it’s Democrats who should be shaking in their boots.
“Now that the Democrats are using the Epstein Hoax, involving Democrats, not Republicans, to try and deflect from their disastrous SHUTDOWN, and all of their other failures, I will be asking AG Pam Bondi, and the Department of Justice, together with our great patriots at the FBI, to investigate Jeffrey Epstein’s involvement and relationship with Bill Clinton, Larry Summers, Reid Hoffman, J.P. Morgan, Chase, and many other people and institutions, to determine what was going on with them, and him,” the president wrote in another post.
And, once again, we agree with him. DOJ (and Congress) should probe anybody who may have been involved in Epstein’s crimes.
We just happen to believe that Trump should be high on that list.
Unfortunately, we don’t have high hopes that DOJ will do that. However, if the public keeps up the pressure, some Republicans in Congress may think twice about how far they are willing to go to protect a historically unpopular president.
