Noam Chomsky made a confounding pronouncement that he has no interest in determining who killed JFK because “Who cares?  What does it matter?”   Those are his words, I believe, verbatim.

Well, thank you Russ Baker, for stating “We can’t understand anything today unless we look at what happened before us.”    Russ, you brilliantly compare it to buying a house and the necessity to examine its past  —  check for termites, water leaks, etc.  But regarding our US history, our democratic institutions do not do this, and most Americans, thus, have a very incomplete understanding of what is happening today.

Russ, do you have any inside scoop to  account for Mr. Chomsky’s aberrant position on this?

Chomsky: Who cares who caused 9/11, who killed JFK. So many people die.

I think he’s in a difficult spot, having fought throughout his career to get a hearing for his views from the mainstream. We all pick our fights, and decide where we can and will go and where we won’t. Also, I think we ought to take him at his word that he has just decided that he isn’t going to get into those incredibly thorny issues.

With all due respect, Russ, you are being too charitable to Mr Chomsky.   When he says “Who cares, what does it matter?”  because he is the eminence grise amongst us, his words prevent and stymie so many who respect to him from discovering why indeed JFK’s assassination matters for today’s body politic.  Chomsky could say he doesn’t have time to look into it, let others investigate, etc. etc.   But I feel his reasoning inhibits inquisitive minds and that is not positive.

Secrets? Government Secrets? It’s an unspeakable history, a “public secret”, but essentially the nazi Policy Set, some might argue, “jumped” to the victors – a contamination that found fertile soil.  In fact the eastern (the eastern front against soviets) intelligence service of the nazis was brought over and integrated into the US/UK services.
