The local ABC affiliate tv station in Tucson is KGUN. It is referred to as “K-GUN.” A man named H.U. Garrett chose those call letters when he bought the station in 1957. Wikipedia says this man sought to reflect his interest in Western lore, and in collecting guns. Now that, half a century later, the world is focused on this city and gun violence, with KGUN’s logo  emblazoned on tv screens everywhere, are station executives and Tucson residents just beginning to consider the message sent by such call letters in a very different America? Also, do other stations around the country send out messages with their call letters? Please let us hear pertinent examples from you.
